SED seeking educators for math and ELA standards review committees

The State Education Department is seeking interested educators from across the state to apply to be a part of ELA and Math Standards Review Committees. The state has committed to the review as part of the overhaul of standards and assessments that NYSUT called for in concert with parents.

SED is looking for a cross section of subject area teachers and grade levels, from pre-K through higher education. Tentatively, the committees will meet in-person and virtually (through phone or webinar) beginning in late spring and continuing until December 2016. In-person meetings will be held in July 2016 for no more than five days.

NYSUT Vice President Catalina Fortino noted the union successfully pressed SED to alter the original application specifications to remove length of service restrictions and include release time for committee members. The deadline to apply is April 4. For application links, go to:http://www.nysed.gov/aimhighny
