Will you fund our schools?
Yesterday, the Governor released his budget, which provides a 4.4% increase in education funding. Last year the state provided almost the exact same amount of funding, and schools cut 5,000 educators’ positions, made program cuts to summer school, arts, music, Advanced Placement courses, tutoring and more. Frankly, it is not enough to prevent cuts to classrooms across the state. This is the state of our schools, but our students deserve better.
It is now up to the legislature to stand up for students and allocate the necessary funding to keep their promise of funding a “sound basic education” for every student in New York.
