Geddes/Westvale/Solvay Relay for Life, June 8

Friday June 8th is the start of this year’s Relay for Life event at the Solvay High School track. Westhill employees have a team again this year, organized by WDEA and WEU. Your involvement will make this a great event! Last year we had a record number of participants on our team, as well as our highest amount of dollars raised. So of course, we are looking to increase both of those numbers this year. 🙂 If you’ve thought about participating in the past, this is the year to get on board!

If you’re not familiar with the event, Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society’s biggest fundraiser. It provides ACS with funds used for a variety of things, including cancer research and support for those battling cancer. The event kicks off at 6 pm with the Survivor Ceremony and ends at 5 am on Saturday with a free pancake breakfast. Participants (that’s you!) come and walk the track, with the goal of having one person from the team on the track at all times. So you aren’t committing to be there the entire time, you can stop by whenever your schedule allows.

There are many ways to get involved, and everything is helpful. You may decide to…

— Join our team! Dedicate 30 minutes of your time to walk the track. You can sign up as a participant at:

(If that link isn’t working correctly, you can use this one and then search by team name ”Westhill Unions.”

— Participate in our fundraising efforts. The first chances to donate are coming up, look for details soon.

— Wear your Westhill blue on team fundraising days.

— Share your crafty talent. The event is looking for donations of handmade crafts and other items to put in the Survivor goodie bags, email me if you’re interested.

Whether you give of your time, money or talent you are contributing to a worthy cause. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask your building’s contact person — if we don’t know the answer we will find out!

Karin Backus (CRS)
Brendan Van Epps (OHMS)
Kathy Cutler and Tammy Sterling (WHS)

Details about various fundraisers will be sent out as they get closer. In the meantime, consider joining our team.
