Westhill science teacher Jean Pounder among four honored by technology group

Jean Pounder loves getting kids interested in science.

The Westhill High School earth science teacher says she’s always liked science and things like nature, the outdoors, space and the earth.

Pounder is one of four teachers selected by the Technology Alliance of Central New York to receive this year’s Outstanding Teacher Award.

The award recognizes “unsung heroes” in Central New York who inspire the scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians of tomorrow, said Howard Hollander, president of TACNY.

Pounder will be recognized along with the other award recipients at a banquet to be held Friday. Of being selected, she said “It’s an honor to be in there with the rest of them. There are a lot of great teachers who have been chosen.”
