ALERT ALERT ALERT

TIME IS RUNNING OUT TO SAVE EDUCATION

EXTEND THE MILLIONAIRES TAX – SUPPORT EDUCATION

PLEASE CALL YOUR STATE SENATOR AND THE GOVERNOR IMMEDIATELY – Call your Senator and the Governor via the NYS AFL-CIO action line – 1-877-255-9417 (when prompted press 2 to be connected to your Senator’s office and press 1 to be connected to the  Governor’s office).

Tell them to extend the millionaires’ tax and that it is unconscionable to provide a $5 Billion tax cut to the wealthiest New Yorkers while failing to provide adequate restorations to k-12 education and Higher Education funding.

The Senate and Assembly have proposed to restore LESS than 20% of the Governor’s $1.5 billion (7.3 percent) cut to k-12 education.  The proposed cut is the largest total dollar state aid cut ever proposed in the history of New York state and would reverse the progress our schools have made.

The Governor has proposed a destructive 10 percent cut to SUNY, CUNY and our community colleges after three straight years of enormous cuts that have already jeopardized quality and access to higher education.  The legislature has proposed NO restorations to the Governor’s 10 percent cut to SUNY and CUNY four-year institutions, and only a 50 percent restoration to community colleges.

These education cuts would have a damaging effect on class size, course offerings, support services, counseling, library services and every measure of quality used in education.
